Description

Do you want an easy prep, hands-on alphabet center to help your little learners practice their letter recognition and matching lower and upper case alphabet letters? Because letter recognition is such an important part of the reading process and helps to lay the foundations for our learners to understand the alphabetic principle, I like to provide my class with lots of different ways to interact with the letters.

These task cards have your learners reading the uppercase letter on the apple barrel and finding the apple with the matching lowercase case letter. You decide how many letters they are working on based on their skills and/or the letters you have been working on.

Other uses for the Apple upper and lower alphabet matching cards include:

  • Alphabet order: provide a selection of alphabet cards and have students put them in order – can also be random letters.
  • Find the letter: layout a selection of alphabet cards and ask the students to find the letter which makes the …… sound.
  • Flashcards: with either the upper or lower case cards – show students a selection of cards (based on what you have been working on) and have them say the sound the letter makes (or the name of the letter if that is your focus).

Just print, laminate, and cut and you are set to go.

I store these in the larger photo display boxes as it makes storage and packing up so easy, but you can just as easily store them in a ziplock bag.

With letter & letter-sound recognition being such an important part of the reading process, I like to provide my students with lots of opportunities to interact and solidify their knowledge. I find by just swapping out the theme of the activity that it helps keep students engaged. I have more in this range including initial sound and alphabet matching which can be found by clicking HERE
