Description

I know this apple themed math center resource will be perfect for helping your first grade students master number bonds and facts through ten during apple season.

What's included:

  • Apple Seed Number Bond: Related Facts (Commutative property of addition) - Students will find the whole number using black and brown apple seeds and an apple themed ten frame work mat. They will then record their work and complete two addition sentences.
  • Apples Way to Make Ten - Students will use a ten frame and counting chips to find all the ways to make ten.
  • Apple Number Bond Craft - Students will make a person carrying a basket of red and green apples. They will complete a number bond to go with the apples in their basket.
  • Apple Number Bonds: Find the Missing Part - Students will find the missing part of a number bond using the whole and a part. A work mat is included if the students need it for extra support.
  • Ten Frame Search - Count - Write the Room - Students will search the room for apple themed ten frame cards. Once they find a card, they will write the number of apples in the frame on their recording sheet and draw the number of apples in the frame. Then they will trace the number word on the recording sheet. Each card has a letter on it which corresponds to a letter on the recording sheet.

All math centers come with teacher directions, student directions, and math center cards.

For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record the answer with a drawing or equation.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 + ? = 11, 5 = ▯ - 3, 6 + 6 = ▯.
