Description

A sequence of undefined but vaguely familiar and sometimes funny and startling animal sounds made by a human voice: mewing, purring, whining, laughing, snarling, humphing, snuffling, sniffing, screeching, snorting, chuckling, foraging.......... for Pre-school and Kindergarten children. The sounds are purposely not identified or associated with particular animals in order to maximize use of imagination. Targeted at getting children to talk about the sounds, imagine the creatures they are coming from, and the emotions evoked by the various creatures' sounds. Can be used by teachers, playgroup leaders and parents. The 1 minute mp3 recording consists of 13 "creature units", each divided by approximately 2 seconds of silence for ease of playback and pausing. Some are very short, some a few seconds long...
Suggestions are given on the accompanying information sheet about how to elicit language from children. This activity has any number of possibilities depending on the developmental stage of the children. Can be used in conjunction with writing, art, physical recreation or to enhance speaking skills.
