Animal Research Packet Expository Writing (Outline, Publishing Template, Rubric)

Students can choose any animal to research and can take notes on this easy to use outline! The outline contains 5 sections to organizes notes. The sections include appearance, habitat, diet and eating habits, predators and protection, and life cycle. Each section has guiding questions to help students understand what belongs in each section. There is also a place to write topic sentences for each section and a conclusion at the end. After taking notes, the students can turn the research into a non-fiction book that they create! This packet includes the template for publishing. There is a title page, table of contents, a page for each section which includes a subtitle, space for a diagram, and lines to write on, and there is a glossary at the end. You can complete the book by adding cardstock or plain paper to create a cover. There is also a rubric to asses 6 different parts of the research process. It is recommended that students write a draft, edit, and revise before publishing the book, which can be completed on regular notebook paper. This unit will take approximately 6 weeks to complete with 1-2 hours of daily activity.
