Description

Your class has just become a zoo! Each student will be designing a habitat in the zoo for an animal of their choice, or an animal you assign them. Student's will incorporate multiple skills to create this project. Student's will first use their research skills to learn all about an animals habitat! Then they will use their perimeter and area skills to design a layout for the animal. They will include specific plants and water sources that would be found in their natural habitat! This is a fun way to combine multiple subjects and my students ALWAYS love learning about animals!

Recognize area as an attribute of plane figures and understand concepts of area measurement.
A square with side length 1 unit, called “a unit square,” is said to have “one square unit” of area, and can be used to measure area.
Measure areas by counting unit squares (square cm, square m, square in, square ft, and improvised units).
Find the area of a rectangle with whole-number side lengths by tiling it, and show that the area is the same as would be found by multiplying the side lengths.
Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same area and different perimeters.
