    Description

This 8th grade math bundle includes 6 angle relationships resources that you need for your Angle Relationships unit:

Angle Relationships Discovery Activity: Here's a hands-on activity for students to actually "verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections, and translations: Angles are taken to angles of the same measure." If you've every wondered what that standard means or how to teach it, here's a ready-to-go resource for you! In this introductory activity, students use rigid transformations to identify angle relationships when parallel lines are cut by a transversal.

How it works: Students will cut out 2 angles that match angles in a diagram with parallel lines and a transversal. They will follow step-by-step instructions that ask them to translate, rotate, and reflect the angles to find which are congruent. They will also be asked to shade angles of the same color and answers questions along the way. Students are ask to verify vertical angles using reflections and rotations. They are also prompted to discover corresponding angles and alternate interior angles using translations and rotations or reflections. Before this activity, students should know how to translate, rotate, and reflect figures and they should know that angle measures are preserved in these rigid transformations. Students should also know the terms vertical and supplementary angles. These angle relationships are found in this activity: corresponding angles, alternate interior angles, & alternate exterior angles. Students discover these relationships, but the vocabulary terms are not introduced. An answer key is included.

Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal Guided Notes: These ready-to-go guided notes are a great way to teach students about angle relationships formed when parallel lines are cut by a transversal- including the vocabulary! Don't make your students have to draw lines again and again. Simply print these notes and give them to your students to fill in! The angle relationship vocabulary included in these guided note are: parallel lines, transversal, corresponding angles, alternates interior angles, & alternate exterior angles. Review vertical angles and supplementary angles as you go over these notes. Use this in your interactive notebook or student reference pages. Help students see the relationships even more by having students color code the angles! An example is given at the end of the notes page to review. Use it as a guided example or a short practice. A key is included!

Angle Relationships Posters Set: This set of 11 printable posters can be printed in black and white or in color! Help your students by hanging these visuals up to reference during your Angle Relationships unit (or all year long)! These vocabulary posters serve to provide visuals and reminders for students of the following vocabulary terms: Parallel lines, Transversal, Vertical angles, Supplementary angles, Complementary angles, Adjacent angles, Corresponding angles, Alternate interior angles, Alternate exterior angles, Interior angles, & Exterior angles. Print on colored paper or cardstock from your own printer. Or print them as large as 18" x 24" to use for math anchor charts.

Angle Relationships Scavenger Hunt: Get students up and moving! No prep work is needed for this engaging activity over parallel lines cut by a transversal. Just print and hang. How it works: Students search around the room solving 10 problems to review supplementary, alternate exterior, alternate interior, vertical, and corresponding angles. Starting at any page, students will determine the answer to the question at the bottom of the page and then "hunt" for the answer at the top of another page. When they find the answers, they will answer the question on the bottom of that page. They continue answering until they've answers all 10 questions. Use this resource with students in pairs or as early finisher work. This scavenger hunt is a quick and fun way for 8th grade students to practice angle relationships! There is a recording sheet for students to record their answers. A key is also included and super easy to check!

Angles Challenge Worksheet (print): Challenge students with this angles worksheet where they must find 71 missing angles formed by lines! Students use what they know about parallel lines and transversals, alternate interior angles, alternate exterior angles, corresponding angles, supplementary angles, vertical angles, and interior angles of triangles to find missing angles.

Differentiate with two different level challenges!

    • Level 1 gives students 2 angles and they must find the other 26.
    • Level 2 gives students 4 angles and they must find the other 71.

Students love trying to find all the angles. I usually give them level 1 first to prove they are ready and then let them attempt level 2. There is always competition with students on who can find more! A recording sheet is included for both for organizing and easy checking. This resource is perfect for early finishers or as extra credit.

Angles Challenge (digital): This Angle Relationships Digital Activity uses Google Slides to challenge your students with what they know about parallel lines and transversals, alternate interior angles, alternate exterior angles, corresponding angles, supplementary angles, vertical angles, and interior angles of triangles to find missing angles. This resource gives students 2 angles and they must find the other 26. In the digital version, students type their answers in the text boxes provided. A printable worksheet is another option and a recording sheet is included for both for organizing and checking.
