This video worksheet allows students learn about immigration to Angel Island. The video clip is only 8 minutes long, but it is packed full of information that will keep your students engaged.

This video worksheet works great as a “Do Now Activity” or as a complement to any lecture or lesson plan on immigration to America. The worksheet guides students through the importance of Angel Island and problems faced by immigrants at Angel Island. The video is great for visual learners and helps break up class time so students are more focused throughout the entire period. My students enjoy this short engaging video and have a better overall understanding of immigration in the early 1900s. This lesson plan is great at helping students understand Asian immigration to the United States during the early 1900s, especially Chinese and Japanese immigration.

This activity is very easy to use. All you have to do is hand out the worksheet to the students and play the video from the following website below. You can also download the video right to your computer from the website using KeepVid.

The worksheet is labeled (Angel Island Immigration Station Video Worksheet)

Students watch the video and answer the questions on the worksheet. The worksheet includes 10 questions and has an answer sheet for the teacher. I recommend pausing the video at times to allow students to reflect and answer questions. The worksheet can be used to generate classroom discussion or be used as homework. Feel free to modify this assignment as needed for your classes.
