Description

This is an excellent PowerPoint lecture which is focused on the necessary background students need to know to understand ancient Greek theater, especially that applied to tragedy according to Aristotle's formula in "Poetics." This presentation begins with some geographical information for 5th Century B.C. ancient Greece, including the basics of the "city state" (polis)--I use the difference between Sparta and Athens as a good example to set up the focus on "drama" and how slavery itself allowed free citizens to take part in this kind of leisure. I have excellent graphics in this presentation and some helpful notes for the teacher. I think its focus on the definition of tragedy is simple yet effective. Thanks for looking!
