What educators are saying
Great resource! I used this in my Dramatic Literature during the first few weeks of the semester. It made lesson planning easy. I loved that it provide quiz questions.
Description
Any overview of theater history has to start at the beginning: with the Greeks. This file contains two presentations (both PPT & PDF ) giving an overview of Ancient Greek Theater for secondary theater or ELA students. It is a great way to introduce Antigone or any other classical Greek play, and includes brightly-colored slides with beautiful photographs.
The notes are split into two parts that can be taught on separate days. The first part covers form (the history, structure, and practices of Greek Theater) while the second covers content (themes and plots of major works.) Each presentation starts with a series of learning targets formatted as "I CAN" statements to guide study. Each presentation also comes with a set of brief lecture notes to help the teacher.
Also included in this file is a short quiz that can be given at the end of the unit. It is multiple choice and one-page. I have used this quiz successfully in my own Theater I classroom.
