Description

Increase student engagement in your Ancient China social studies unit with these activities about Ancient China's Terracotta Army. This resource gives you a full lesson with three steps: an investigation activity to hook your students, a reading passage to learn more, and a discussion guide to reflect together on what you learned.

Step 1: Hook your students

Students think critically about an image of terracotta soldiers in the "I See, I Think, I Wonder" investigative activity. Give each student a graphic organizer to jot down their ideas during the activity. Call on students to share because one person's idea can spark another's!

Step 2: Read to learn more

Give students the informational reading passage to learn more about the terracotta army. Students will be itching to learn more and hopefully get their questions answered.

Step 3: Discuss as a Class

Last, come together again and have a class discussion about everything students learned. I included a discussion guide to help you but you could also use this time to research any unanswered questions that students still have.

This product includes:

  • Teacher Notes
  • Terracotta Army image for the Investigation activity
  • 2 versions of graphic organizer for investigation (one blank and one with lines)
  • Example of completed organizer to prompt students
  • Informational reading passage with Comprehension Questions
  • Discussion Questions and examples of student answers to guide your class discussion

I hope your students love this activity as much as mine do!
