This note packet, designed to be used in place of a text book, covers important concepts of Ancient China for middle schoolers. Section One discusses China's geographical features, including its famous mountain ranges and river systems. Section One also introduces the concept of dynasties in China, as well as the importance of family in Chinese society. Section Two covers Confucianism, while Section Three explains the Warring States Period, China's first emperor, and the Han Dynasty. Finally, Section Four lays out some famous inventions that can be attributed to the ancient Chinese society.
Important words and terms are bolded and highlighted in yellow, and Thinking Questions are embedded throughout. Students may work individually (or in pairs) to complete the thinking questions upon teacher request. Each question is intended to emphasize the importance of a specific piece of information, or drive home an overarching point. Keys containing possible answers have been provided on the last three pages.
