Description
Introduce key anatomy terminology to your high school students with “John and Jane Dough: Surgery!” This hands-on, low-prep activity is exactly what you need to teach your students body planes and cavities... and then apply what they have learned!
These activities take my students anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes. My school operates on 45-minute class periods, so I personally break the activity up into two days.
Part 1: You will teach the basics behind body planes and body cavities using the engaging, student-focused 19-slide PowerPoint (full of student challenges and activities). While working through the PowerPoint, your students will fill in their Doodle Notes. As soon as you finish the notes, students will dive right into the activity.
Part 2: Your students will use dough/clay, knives, and cookie cutters to practice directional terms, body planes, and body cavities. First your students will review directional terms and body cavities (page 1). Next, your students will “practice” for “surgery” using “cadavers.” During this portion of the activity, they will make basic cuts into the dough cutouts (as the instructions tell them) and draw these cuts on their lab. Last, your students will be put to the test during “surgery!” They will complete 5 more complicated cuts which require them to combine their knowledge of directional terms, body planes, and body cavities. This could be great as an alternative assessment!
The resources are available in both print and digital forms. The PowerPoint includes editable text.
Included within this resource, you will receive the following print resources:
- 19-slide PowerPoint (zero-prep, so engaging)
