This Common Core reading informational text lesson covers the impact of word choice on a text. In this lesson, students will identify uses of specific words, determine the tone suggested by the author, and analyze the impact of these choices on meaning and tone. ( It is helpful if students are already familiar with standards 9-10.RI.4 Determine the figurative meaning of words and phrases, and 9-10.RI.4 Determine the connotative meaning of words and phrases.) In addition to the initial lesson, there are numerous pages of Independent Practice and Review with questions modeled after Common Core assessment items.
