What educators are saying

I used this in my freshman ELA class, but I am definitely going to find ways to use this in every class because it is great! I saw my students engaged and using this while we went over analysis, but then so many brought it out again outside of the unit! This resource is a keeper!
This is a great visual resource students can keep with them and refer back to as they are working on their arguments/debates.

Description

Do your students struggle to choose, lead into, cite, and analyze evidence? Need them to give more detail in their answers or explain data, direct quotes, and facts in writing? Use this booklet and quiz set to give them a crash course on analysis before your next assessment!

These TWO instructional mini-booklets, plus all the subsequent follow-up, are great whether students are learning analysis for the first time or you're doing review/ differentiation with older students:

Booklet #1: What is Analysis?
Teaches purpose, how to choose evidence TO analyze, and how to apply to short answer questions/tests, essays, and lab reports/data.

Booklet #2: Analyzing Facts & Quotes
Breaks down the analysis process into five tangible steps (lead in, state/cite, clarify, explain, and conclude/transition).

>>>Click on the PREVIEW and check out my blog post about the booklets for more IMAGES and ideas!<<<

About these Materials:
• Assembly takes 20 minutes on average and just requires scissors (or a paper slicer) and your favorite adhesive (stapler, glue, etc.) Teacher directions are included. :-)
• Once students have assembled and reviewed the mini-booklets, give them the QUIZ (either open-book or without it) to check for both understanding and application of the skill in writing!
• After that, your students are ready to proceed to your next essay or assessment.

The booklets become valuable keepsakes that they can apply across the curriculum, carry into next year, put into an interactive notebook, or keep handy in their binders! My students have also referenced these booklets in Social Studies and Science classes.

This 25+ page download includes:
• Ready-to-print files for both booklets
• Practice activity for direct quote/fact analysis
• Quiz and answer key
• Both PDF and editable MS Word formats
• Teacher’s Guide with more tips and assembly instructions
• Interactive Notebook anchor page
• Poster/handout of an analyzed example paragraph!
