American Symbols Nonfiction Reading Comprehension

In this unit, your students will learn about many famous American Symbols.

There is a book about the symbols, copy 1 per page. This book will explain each symbol and how it became an important part of American history. There is now a color copy as well as black and white. This unit can be used for distance learning and google classroom with the new TpT digital tool.

The symbols covered are:

• White House

• Bald eagle

• American Flag

• Liberty Bell

• Mount Rushmore

• The Washington Monument

• The Lincoln Memorial

• The Statue of Liberty.

In addition there is a packet created for each symbol. The packet allows your student to research and learn about different symbols. In my room, we will be grouping the students and each group will present their American symbol at the end of the week.

There is a mini word wall for children to refer to when spelling the American symbols.
