What educators are saying

I appreciate having reading passages on people we are discussing in History class written at an age appropriate level.
We used these to supplement our reading/writing curriculum. They enjoyed the articles/passages. They liked learning more about the topic!

Description

Revolutionary War Close Reads Pack

This pack is available in a bundle with the 3rd and 5th grade packs. Save over 15% by purchasing the bundle!

I am so excited about this new line of products! I wanted to make it easy for you to integrate reading with the content areas, so I have made these Close Read packs. You can use these packs as practice during whole group or small group, for assessment purposes, or even as homework!

Have multiple reading levels in your classroom? Be sure to check out the 3rd grade and 5th grade packs to differentiate for your students!

Want to try before you buy? Try my Close Reads Pack: American Revolutionary War Heroes- 4th Grade SAMPLER. This sampler includes the lesson on Abigail Adams. The full product has 10 additional people!

Time is limited, but if you can teach reading during your social studies or science time, or social studies or science during your reading time, you will be able to be more thorough and give students additional practice on those important skills. No more trying to cram it all in!

Studying the American Revolutionary War? Then this pack is for you! I have written 11 original informational texts about various heroes of the Revolutionary War and their contributions. Each person comes with 1 original text, 2 pages of Close Read questions, and 2 answer keys.Texts
I have included 2 options for each text. One has lines in the margin for students to record the main idea and evidence of answers and the other option does not include lines. You choose which works best for your students.

Each text is labeled with the Lexile level and Fountas & Pinnell level so you can easily select appropriate texts for your purposes. All fall within the 4th grade band. Need other reading levels? The 3rd grade and 5th grade packs are available now! I have written the passages so that you can use different grade level packs within your classroom to differentiate for your students. The passages in the different grade level packs will be similar enough so that all your students can be reading about the same topic, but the reading levels will fit your students' needs!

You can pick and choose as many or as few of the texts as you would like. Students don't have to read all of the texts to be able to answer the questions about each person.

Close Read Question Pages
The first page of Close Read questions contains a spiral review of various 4th grade CCSS. The second page of Close Read questions focuses on one 4th grade CCSS and offers targeted practice. I have included 2 options for each of the question pages. One option has each question labeled with the 4th grade standard and the other option does not. Why? Because if you do not teach 4th grade you most likely do not want 4th grade CCSS labeled on the page. You can choose which one works best for you!

The second pages that offer focused practice also include a graphic organizer for students to organize their thoughts which will help them answer the last question which is a constructed response.

All of the questions on the first and second pages are constructed response that require students to provide evidence and/or explain their thinking. Perfect for getting your students to dig deeper into text!

You can also use different grade level packs about the same topic to differentiate based on your individual students. Because the passages are similar between the grade level packs, varying only on the Lexile level, the Close Read questions between the grade level packs will also be similar. The questions are written to correlate with a specific grade level's standards so the main difference between the Close Read questions in the grade level packs is the level of difficulty. These packs make it easy for all your students to be reading and answering questions about the same topic on their individual level!

Recording Chart & Correlation Chart
I have also included a chart you can record your students' progress on for each set of Close Read questions and a correlation chart that matches up the standards and which texts include them. You can use the correlation chart to quickly choose a text based on which CCSS you want to review or focus on with your students!

Puzzles and Culminating Project
I have included 8 puzzles and 1 short culminating project that can be given to early finishers, or all students can complete them just for fun. Please note that the puzzles and culminating project are the SAME for each grade level pack. I have included a word search, crossword puzzle, anagrams, finding smaller words within a longer word, cryptogram, ABC's list, word ladders, and phrase scrambles. All puzzles are related to the American Revolutionary War. The culminating project is a short research project for students to further learn about one of the heroes.
