Description

This is zip file with teacher notes and a 14 slide powerpoint that walks through persuasive devices in speeches and the following 3 selections:
1. Patrick Henry's "Speech at the Virginia Convention"
2. Ben Franklin's Speech at the Convention
3. Thomas Paine's "American Crisis"

Patrick Henry's speech is closely analyzed, while the other two are overviews. I use this ppt in conjunction with an American lit book in 11th grade English, but it could be adapted for other books and secondary levels as each text is widely available online.
