What educators are saying

This was such a fun, engaging way to teach this topic to my middle school students during distance learning.
loved this! had students work in pairs and discuss, then share out to a full class discussion. loved hearing the difference of opinions and evidence to support. loved that this challenged students to think in different ways and gain perspective. thanks for this awesome resource!

Description

This American Revolution Patriot, Loyalist, or Neutral activity is best used after students have already been introduced to Patriots, Loyalists, and Neutrals in the buildup to the Revolutionary War. Here, students are presented with 7 different scenarios of people living in the American Colonies - and it is their job to uncover what position they would take, either a Patriot, a Loyalist, or if they would remain Neutral.

Each scenario asks students to explain their reasoning as to why they chose what they did! This can be a great resource for homework, a review activity, or an extension activity.

This resource includes a paper in-class version and a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom. Just follow the included instructions for how to access the Google version, then share the resource through Google or assign via Google Classroom. This will allow students to type directly into the document!

This Patriots and Loyalist lesson is included in the larger Causes of the American Revolution Unit, located here:
