Description
Curriculum review needs to happen ALL YEAR LONG in the United States Social Studies Class. In this US History Review it can become an easy part of the classroom with building History Fluency by doing Thematic Warm-ups. This lesson explains "Mapping Monday" and it gives students the ability to quickly and accurately RECALL, CONNECT, and APPLY historical information from one unit to another
Purpose: Create a system of “history fluency” by using the thematic warm-up of Mapping Monday in which students are able to review the major concepts of each unit as they recreate the map EVERY Monday and add new information. Teachers are able to check for understanding each week as they quickly work through the map. Students can then recreate this “reference sheet” when they test.
In this Product:
1. Video Example: My students review the major ideas of every unit every Monday in class my recreating the historical map. This video takes you through the ENTIRE mapping of EVERY unit. It includes examples of the questions to ask and the vocabulary to use. The best part of history fluency is that you tailor it to fit your class and their needs. If students struggled on remembering the evolution of government, you ask questions that guide them through it. YOU GET TO CHOOSE!
2. Quick Unit Labels: This reference sheet allows you to have a check list of things to label by unit. You can also provide it to students as a reference sheet to study and practice their Mapping of historical information.
3. Mapping Monday Directions: These are broken down by unit. It includes an example map that is hand drawn to reflect how the students will be creating their own maps. Included within the unit breakdown are questions to ask the students as your draw the map.
Adding History Fluency into your weekly routine will transform your students' ability to RECALL the things they have learned. They will see the CONNECTIONS between the units. They will be able to APPLY information across the units!!
