What educators are saying

Great way to teach students to make claims and support them with evidence. Really creative and fun mystery that my students loved!
My students loved learning about theories behind the disappearance of Amelia Earhart! They love these mysteries and can't wait to do another one. They are always a hit and high quality, thank you!

Description

Make learning about Amelia Earhart, a high flying figure in Women's history and a STEM role model, engaging and educational with this investigation activity! Your students will try to crack the mystery of Amelia Earhart's tragic disappearance through a crime scene investigation case file activity that encourages historical and creative thinking. This resource makes history come to life!

A visually engaging case file with comprehensive background readings on Amelia Earhart, her final flight, and her life and accomplishments is provided. Leading theories about Amelia Earhart's disappearance over the Pacific Ocean are provided, and student detectives will view supporting evidence and take detective notes on what they learn. They will then answer the reading comprehension response questions, complete a timeline activity, and draw their own hypothesis about Amelia Earhart's fate based on evidence and the theories in the case file! A bonus letter writing extension activity is included as well.

This investigation activity can be used as a printable packet activity, or as an engaging stations classroom activity with groups! Teacher and student instructions are provided, along with an answer key for the background reading comprehension activity. In addition, four bonus primary source documents are included as an optional supplement for students.

This activity is provided in both ready-to-print color and black and white versions.

This resource makes learning about Amelia Earhart highly engaging and is a great supplement, introduction, or reinforcement activity to any lesson! This activity can be used throughout the year, but also works great in connection to Women's History Month!
