All Are Welcome Book Companion (Read-Aloud for Back to School)

All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold and Suzanne Kaufman is the perfect read aloud for back to school. It is a great introduction to social-emotional learning about kindness, inclusion, diversity and confidence. During the beginning of the school year, it's so important to set up a strong classroom community and start building relationships. This helps with behavior management and student learning.

This book does a beautiful job celebrating diversity and helping students feel safe in our classrooms.

The following activities are included.

Discussion Questions- questions to ask before, during and after reading to build student comprehension and lead to important discussion about being inclusive and celebrating our differences

Our Favorite Lunches

"Time for lunch-what a spread! A dozen different kinds of bread. Pass it around till everyone's fed!" The author shows students eating many different types of food that celebrate their cultures. Your class will make a bar graph showing their favorite lunches and then write about it. Then your class will sort kind and unkind things to say about other's lunches.

Our Special Talents

"We will learn from each other. Special talents we'll uncover. There's a big world to discover!"

Students will draw and write about their special talents and interest. Then students will play a fun collaborative game with music to share their talents with their classmates.

Vocabulary Activities

I've included vocabulary posters for the following words:

discover

Then students will complete a vocabulary book. They'll illustrate each word and then do an activity to show their understanding of the word.

Where We Come From

"No matter how you start your day, what you wear when you play, or if you come from far away. All are welcome here."

Students will draw and write about where they come from including their local community.
