What educators are saying

This resource was great for talking about things that make each of us special and also how to appreciate the ways we are alike and different from each other. Awesome resource!

Description

This is a great little set of resources for a kindergarten unit that is all about being alike and different. I wrote it to better understand what I needed to teach in social studies and to better help my kinders understand each other. **You will need to pull picture books from your library or classroom to assist you in teaching the main objectives of this unit and the activities should go with most any books you choose that are about culture, self, and place in the world. Activities included: sorting cultural events and traditions, listing similarities and differences, drawing myself, drawing how I change over time, collecting items to tell about self, reading a mini book about culture, and writing about self and a friend. Here are the big ideas covered:

People can be alike and different.
Culture is the beliefs, customs, traditions, and ways of people.
I am special and unique.
My culture helps shape who I am.
I grow and change everyday.
People change for special reasons.
Understanding differences helps us understand each other.
