Algebraic Expressions – The Commutative and Associative Properties

This activity is a "Lab" series lesson activity designed to supplement and enhance student learning after teacher instruction.

In this "Lab" students examine a set of expressions that are related by the Associative and Commutative Properties. The students cut out the pieces, match, and categorize by the correct property that is demonstrated. The student follows up with a self created definition and is provided with the opportunity to create their own expressions.

While this "Lab" can supplement any teacher instruction based on this topic, this "Lab" was developed to supplement the Eureka math module 1 lesson 7 for Algebra.
