Your students will try to crack the mystery of Alexander the Great's death with this engaging investigation activity for lessons about ancient Greece, the Hellenistic age, and ancient civilizations! Students will learn about the rise of Alexander the Great and his early demise, one of history's great unsolved mysteries, through a crime scene investigation case file activity that encourages historical thinking and makes social studies fun!

A visually engaging case file with comprehensive background readings on the rise of Alexander the Great, his conquests, the start of the Hellenistic period, and more is provided. Leading theories about what may have happened to Alexander the Great are provided. Student detectives will encounter background information, artifacts, and maps and take detective notes on what they learn. They will then answer the reading comprehension response questions, complete a timeline activity, and draw their own hypothesis about what happened to Alexander the Great! A bonus letter writing extension activity is included as well.

This investigation activity can be used as a printable packet activity, or as an engaging stations classroom activity with groups! Teacher and student notes are provided, along with an answer key for the background reading comprehension activity.

This activity is provided in both ready-to-print color and black and white versions.
