What educators are saying

This was a great way to connect something that my students are familiar with and the diversity of the African continent! Reading their reflections and reactions shows me that they truly were making the connections necessary to be successful global citizens.
I love every resource I have purchased from Social Studies Stuff and this resource didn't disappoint! My student really enjoyed this activity!!

Description

A STUDENT FAVORITE EVERY YEAR! A GREAT BLACK HISTORY MONTH RESOURCE TOO!

This lesson examines “Wakanda” to learn about Africa’s cultural diversity & the real African traits that inspired Marvel's "Black Panther" movie. The activities are engaging for students & the guided, 5-E format is easy for you to use! Fill-in notes accompany the lesson. Begin with a “Sorting Hat” warm-up to clear up common misconceptions about Africa. Next, explore how the filmmaker blended traits of various African groups together to create the imaginary nation of “Wakanda”. Then, an investigation activity challenges your class to identify connections between the film & real world. A printable “walk-around” poster version is also included for in-class instruction. Finally, assess learning with a fun activity where students write a recipe explaining how to create “Wakanda”. Students do not need to have seen the movie, but in my experience, most have & love the connections! Your purchase has print & interactive, digital versions of the materials. Made for traditional in-class learning or digital 1:1 classrooms. Everything you need is included!
