Description

This reading comprehension resource takes a look at the contributions of five African American inventors and how their innovations are still an integral part of our daily lives today. It includes five biography reading passages and comprehension questions to check for understanding.

Each inventor has a biography page that includes a comprehension question and a "dig deeper" handout. Each handout focuses one of the following reading comprehension strategies - determine importance to find the main idea, synthesizing, asking questions and making personnel connections. These strategies will help readers develop deeper understandings of the contributions these inventors. There is also an opinion writing prompt that includes a brainstorming graphic organizer and essay writing paper.
