    Description

This "Addition Within 20" bundle includes over 175 pages that help children to learn and develop fluency in addition through 20. Please click on individual products to view previews:

    1. The Commutative Property of Addition Through 20: Use 5 levels practice pages/assessments, 2 no-prep games, a chant, and manipulatives to demonstrate that children can add numbers in any order, as they develop fluency in addition within 20.

    2. The "Counting On" Strategy: Use 4 levels of practice pages/assessments plus 9 no-prep dice games and a chant to teach that children can solve problems more efficiently by starting with the greater number and "counting on."

    3. The "Doubles" Strategy: Children use strategies to memorize doubles so that they can solve more difficult problems. They learn to explain, e.g., "I know that 8 + 8 = 16. 8 + 9 would be 1 more. That's 17." This set also includes practice pages/assessments, games, and chants. I've included addition of three addends to introduce the concept and to help children to understand the "Doubles" strategy.

    4. The "Tens" Strategy: Children use strategies to memorize addends that make 10, and use this knowledge to solve more difficult equations. Again, children learn through practice pages/assessments, games, and chants. This section includes addition of three addends, as well as problems that require children to find the unknown in all positions.

    5. ***NEW*** Story Problems: Children learn to solve seven types of word problems using five scaffolded levels of instruction. 60 pages.

    6. ***New*** "Miss Mary Mack" Video: I've listed this bundle at a HUGE discount partly to give you this as a sample of my 38-Song First Grade Math Music Video Set, which teaches ALL Common Core first grade math standards through music. Please see the description to learn about the research basis for the program, and to learn research-based strategies for teaching through music. Note that many of these songs are also GREAT for second grade. Please contact me at missjenny@edutunes.com to learn about the second grade version.

Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
    Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2).
    Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 + ? = 11, 5 = ▯ - 3, 6 + 6 = ▯.
