What educators are saying

I started using this late in the year, realizing my students needed work on fact fluency and solving problems both horizontally and vertically. I can't wait to begin using them one Day 1 this school year. I love the repetition and slow progression of difficulty. Thank you!

Description

Math Facts are incredibly important for young students to learn. They are the building blocks for higher-level math concepts. As children master their math facts, these concepts will be significantly easier and the student will be better equipped to solve them faster. In upper elementary, students will be presented with longer and more complicated calculations to complete to check their understanding of a number of concepts. At this time, if a student does not have their math facts engraved to memory, they will spend a large amount of time figuring out the smaller calculations and risk not completing the test. This not only affects their performance in math class, but will also in other subjects.

These 180 Days of Daily Math Fact Fluency begin with basic addition facts, with every 5th day a review. As students continue to practice and master their facts, new facts will be presented. There are 80 days of addition facts 0-20, 85 days of subtraction facts 0-20, and 15 days of mixed addition and subtraction review facts. Students will practice 40 equations a day; 25 horizontal equations and 15 vertical equations.

The idea is to use this for a warm up for your math instruction daily, beginning with the first day of school. The more students practice their facts, the more concrete understanding they will develop. This should NOT be timed, but students should be given no more than 5 -10 minutes to complete each day.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within 10, e.g., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
