This fun twist on "Mad Minute" addition fact practice is exciting and motivating for kids, and simple to do. We try to "Beat the Clock" and complete 10 addition fact problems in 35 seconds, then 30 seconds, then 25 seconds. Along with a stopwatch, this makes an easy addition math center activity.
This "Within 30" addition pack is great for use with kids who are ready for an extra challenge. Once they've mastered addition facts within 20, these pages provide that little extra bump, taking them from 10+1 all the way to 19+9.
Included in this pack are nine Beat the Clock addition pages, sorted by addend (+!, +2, +3, etc.), each with thirty, 2-digit + 1-digit addition problems to solve. Tick...tock...GO!

Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
