Description

This is a fun CSI Math Mystery Detective is based around mummies and mummification. This activity will engage students by taking them on a journey to solve math problems and puzzles based on adding and subtracting integers. Students narrow down the suspects by completing the positive and negative integer activities and marking them off from the suspect list until one person is left. Perfect all year round, but especially for Halloween math.

The Story

A team of archaeologists has discovered a hidden tomb with an unknown mummy inside. Looking around the room your assistant finds a mysterious glowing cup with two snakes as handles. As the assistant touches the cup the mummy in the room comes to life. To save your team of explorers you need to discover who this mummy is so that they can be laid back to rest. You have managed to narrow the suspects down to 15 possible mummies. It is now your job to further examine them and follow the clues to track down who this mummy is.

Answer sheets, a color, and black and white copy are included. Simply print and go.

The opportunity to practice mathematical skills as well as problem solving in a more practical context with the addition and subtraction of integers is an ideal skill for students to develop. The high interest topics in these CSI math mysteries is also highly motivating for this age group.

Math Mysteries are an independent escape room type of activity where instead of using locks, students identify suspects with puzzles and word problems. This mystery is perfect all year round, and shines at Halloween in fall, end of year activities, start of the year for back to school activities, and summer holidays. Students in 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th grade will love it (and advanced 5th grade).
