What educators are saying

I love getting my students up and moving while they are working. This scavenger hunt kept them engaged and allowed them to practice working with adding and subtracting decimals. The problem solving provided them with enough of a challenge to make them think while allowing them to be successful.
I loved this resource! It was very engaging and got my students moving. They had a very fun time completing this scavenger hunt.

Description

Scavenger hunt activities are great ways for students to have a great time and practice critical math skills. The best part is that they are self-checking! Students that make a mistake will quickly realize that there is a problem when they either return to the original card far sooner than they should or are unable to find their answer as they search the cards. This also encourages error analysis and the very important skill of double checking answers!

This Scavenger Quest allows students to practice adding and subtracting decimals and to recognize key words in decimal word problems. Real world situations such as purchasing items and making change allow students to relate mathematical skills with common real-life and cross-curricular activities! Cards include 12 total problems (6 each of addition and subtraction)!

This Scavenger Quest is part of the following money saving BUNDLE:
BUNDLE Operations with Decimals Word Problems Math Scavenger Quests

Scavenger Quests require VERY LITTLE prep. Simply print off an answer sheet (double sided with LOTS of room for kiddos to work out their math problems!!) for each student and one set of the cards (on paper or cardstock for more durability). Cut the cards out and laminate if you wish so they last longer. Hang them up around the room and in the hallway if you like – kids get a kick out of escaping the classroom.

Students can start at any card. Read and answer the question, working out the problem and writing the answer in the first box on the answer sheet. Then search the room for the card containing that answer in the small corner circle. This is your next card. Read the new question, answer it, and record the answer in the next box on the answer sheet making sure to follow the arrows. The answer for the last card in the series will take you back to the card where you started. If you return to the first card before then, a mistake was made somewhere along the way.
