Description

If you are looking for a different kind of math worksheet, then you found the right resource! This resource is Set 2 of the Secrets of the Toons. For Set 1, click on the link at the bottom of the page.

These four fun worksheets will motivate your students to practice adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with LIKE denominators.

Presented on each worksheet is a secret of a toon character. As students solve the fraction and mixed number problems, they will use problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to help them eliminate toon characters and uncover the secret.

Uncovering the secret of a toon character:

  • These worksheets are perfect for partner work.
  • For each question on a worksheet, students solve the two fraction or mixed number problems and cross out the two boxes containing the answers. The remaining box contains the correct clue to eliminate one or more of the toons on the toon worksheet.
  • At the bottom of the fraction worksheet, there are blank lines that will reveal the final clue to the secret.
  • The last toon remaining is the toon with the secret.
  • For added fun, students can collect a toon card once they uncover the secret. (optional)

NOTE: For the same product but with practice adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with UNLIKE denominators, go to The Secrets of the Toons with Unlike Denominators Set 2.

Included in this resource: All materials come in color and black/white. Each student will need 2 pages: A toon character page and the fraction/clue worksheet A or worksheet B.

  • 4 toon character pages
  • 4 fraction/clue worksheets - 12 fraction problems per page

There are 2 versions of the fraction worksheets.

  • Worksheet A - Students must simplify all proper fraction answers.
  • Worksheet B - Students do not simplify proper fraction answers.

Both worksheets require students to convert improper fraction answers to mixed numbers.

  • Details of the toon’s secret - 2 versions
  • An example is provided to show the students how to use their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to eliminate the toon characters.
