Description
ASL Fingerspelling Drills and New Signs List
Start each class with consistency using this Fingerspelling Drill activity!
You'll give students a category and then fingerspell five words associated with the category. Students trade papers to grade while the class goes over the answers together. Twenty-one drills are included to get you started on the routine. It is simple to come up with drills once you have this routine in place.
This routine not only helps to start my class off focused and calm, but also allows for introduction and extension of vocabulary beyond the required curriculum. Students are even able to continue with the opening routine when I am out for the day. I always get great feedback from substitutes that the class got settled and started on their own since I implemented the fingerspelling drill routine!
Wrap up every class with the New Signs List on the flip side of the worksheet where students record descriptions or drawings of how to sign new or tricky signs from the day's lesson. This becomes your students' personal ASL dictionary.
