ARRAY CITY *Fun Multiplication craft activity
What educators are saying
Description
Hi beautiful teachers,
I have created this resource the 'ARRAY City' to help my students with their Multiplication. This activity is an engaging way to introduce, reinforce, and to practice multiplication and creates a final masterpiece that your children will be proud of!
It can be used from years Prep (kindy), 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 as the window sizes can be altered to multiply more rows by more columns.
The kids absolutely loved initially learning all about rows and columns as they glued their windows to their skyscrapers, and then showing their understanding with the 'My Building' template. Eg. '(names) Building has --- rows of windows in --- columns' Followed by the written multiplication format --- x --- = ---.
Included in this resource-
- Bright and colourful heading 'OUR ARRAY CITY' (best printed in A3')
- Heaps of different looking skyscraper buildings these templates are best to be printed onto CARD PAPER (thick), or laminated, so that your students can trace around them easily! Or, like I have, you may wish to print them and then cut them for your students (less time). The buildings can be printed either in A3 or A4, depending on your space requirements, and how large you would like your city! :)
- For the windows:
1: Use a variety of colours
2. Cut each colour in different sizes eg. Pink 2x2 cm, Green 4x4 cm, Yellow 5x5 cm. This will allow the children to pick the window colour and size that best suits their building. - My Building Rows and Columns template:
The last pages of this resource is the ‘Building Rows and Columns template’.
Here is where the children solidify their learning. You may wish to print the template on coloured paper.
Microsoft Word - Array city.docx - I also have some ‘sky’ clips for decoration purposes! Print as many copies of these template as required for your class.
My students had an absolute ball creating their city and I really hope your students do too!
