What educators are saying

I love this and so did my students! it made it much easier to chunk and summarize the information in manageable bites. Many said they still remembered the sentences when they were taking the exam.
This is a GREAT idea. I introduced it late in the semester so my students did not get the full benefits of the resource. However, I plan to start the year with it next year!

    Description

These are cram sheet reviews designed to give students a memorable acrostic/reference statement to help recall major concepts, locations, innovations, and events from each time period. If you benefit from this resource, PLEASE submit a REVIEW, it helps improve and create more + improved content.

    How to use this resource:

Give students time at the beginning of each class or for homework to memorize as much of the cram sheet as possible. It’s best if they are using these cram sheets all year long, or at least a few weeks out from the AP Exam.

I usually start out our cram sheet review session by saying:

“If you see a free response question about anything during this time period (e.g. 1900 - present), what is the 5 word phrase that should pop up in your head?”

To which they should reply: “From 1900 to present WORLDWIDE CONFLICTS DECOLONIZE GLOBAL COMMUNITIES

    This 5-word phrase is multi-purposed:

    1. Provides a reference/reminder for what to discuss when providing historical context in FRQs.
    2. Provides an acrostic of specific developments of this time period.
    3. Each ACROSTIC word represents one of the S.T.E.E.P. categories (Socio-cultural, Technological, Economic, Environmental, and Political)

Next I usually tell kids to hide their cram sheet and quiz them, whole-class with some sort of group competition.

I’ll say: “For one point, someone tell me .  . . If you see a question about Socio-Cultural developments from 1900-PRESENT, which acrostic word should pop up in your head?” A student will raise their hand and answer: Answer: “WORLDWIDE”

Next I’ll say “What does the “W” in WORLDWIDE stand for? A student will raise their hand and answer: “War en total”.

Next I’ll add a follow-up question: “What are the two World Wars considered ‘total wars’?”

Then we move on to “O” and continue with a similar line of questioning.

The cram sheets are also super helpful with FRQ practice. Rather than having them sift through their textbook or notes when practicing FRQs for a particular time period, I’ll just have them take out their cram sheet to use as a reference.
