Description

Learning the many rhetorical devices and figures of speech used in Vergil's Latin poetry can be exceptionally difficult. In fact, more AP Latin students report being confused about questions on rhetorical devices than any other question on the AP Latin exam.

Whether you are learning Vergil's Aeneid on your own, or want to help your AP Latin students recognize and understand the major rhetorical devices for the upcoming AP Latin exam, this document (designed to be an easy, printable handout for review) will help.

This five-page document lists ALL of the major figures of speech used throughout the Aeneid, along with precise examples of lines containing each of the rhetorical devices (with accompanying line numbers for review). The words in a line which incorporate the figure of speech are bolded for ease of learning.

Ideal as a quick reference, this document is perfect for AP Latin students, university students learning Latin poetry, and self-taught or home-schooled students preparing for Latin exams.
