How do you "make" a student communicate? You can't. Communication is not a simple behavior that we can force someone to engage in. Communication is more than requesting or labeling an item. Communication is telling a partner something they don't already know. It's a way to make a connection with someone, to have a shared experience, to learn from someone else and to share your own knowledge, experiences and stories.

DTA Partner Strategy Kits are a collection of techniques to help you ENCOURAGE your student's communication, not REQUIRE it.

What's Included:

In this package you will find resources to help you implement 10 strategies to encourage your students to communicate with you.These were developed with people who use augmentative and alternative communication in mind, but work for all students, speaking, non-speaking, or a little of both!

• A 2 page handout for each strategy, which has a high enough resolution to be printed into a poster to serve as a visual reminder in your classroom.
• Links to short, engaging instructional videos for each strategy. Each video includes an explanation and an example of the strategy.
• A simple activity sheet to get you and your team thinking and talking about the strategy you are implementing.
