A Holiday Theme For Teaching Text Structure!!
- Google Slides™
Description
Have fun this month teaching students about text structure. After introducing how authors structure non-fiction texts, students can practice identifying the 5 main text structures using task cards and example texts, then they can work together writing in all 5 using the iconic Christmas figures (Like Buddy the Elf, The Grinch, and more). Finally, assess their knowledge by having them write their own text using the outlines I've included!
You can use this digitally, or print out.
Included:
- colored copies(digital or printable) and black/white copies(printable)
- 2 different text structure worksheets to help students analyze different structures, find keywords, and identify author's purpose. (Covers state standards!)
- a notes page with all 5 text structures, definitions, and key terms.
- An outline for each text structure. This is a GREAT visual planning sheet for students, so they can start writing in any of the 5 structures.
- Fun outline to help students write that perfect "Present" paragraph!
- Task cards with each text structure and an example story.
(You can use this to have students play a matching game)
- BONUS-link to my INTERACTIVE, FUN, ENGAGING Google Slideshow (PearDeck extension included)
How I use this in a lesson:
I usually show a Flocabulary video about text structure, then practice as a whole class with a fun, interactive slideshow. I've included the Google Slideshow(with Peardeck) free with this lesson. Click below, make a copy, and it's yours to keep or edit. If you're not familiar with PearDeck, it is definitely a game changer! It is a Chrome extension that makes your lesson interactive. It helps keep your students on task during the lesson, and it's an easy way to assess their knowledge. If you don't want to use the PearDeck extension, just delete from each slide.
