Novel Questions, Thinking or Task Cards, Summary Graphic Organizer, Character Traits This is a heartwarming story about a sixth grader with dyslexia, who doesn’t know she has dyslexia. Ally Nickerson has made it through 7 schools in 7 years and all she knows is she is D.U.M.B! Not really, but go on this harrowing adventure with both Ally and your students as she becomes one of your classmates in this beautiful read aloud. I am so proud of this work, I know you will love it too!
In this complete kit you get 3-5 listening comprehensions for every chapter, that’s right! All 51 chapters. I display the questions on the smartboard as I read so that students have an easier time staying focused on the reading and short (usually one to two word answers). It also helps me save on paper, however, I would definitely use this in small groups like a literature circle. An answer key is included.
There are 72 “Thinking Cards” I do not refer to them as task cards because they are higher order thinking, a lot of synthesizing how come, why do you think, what would happen if etc. The cards that do go with a particular chapter are labeled with the chapter number. They can be done as you all read the book, or you can have students go back and answer the cards.
I have included a graphic organizer for summarizing the chapters in groups of 5. Each summary sheet also includes a place for students to put words they do not know and it asks them to write their latest opinion of Ally as we watch the character develop throughout the story.
There is also a section for characterization and character traits where you and your students can analyze each of the characters including Ally, Travis, Shay, Keisha, Albert and more!
