What educators are saying

I used this resource to help inspire and provide additional questions for my own comprehension checks for the "The Christmas Carol". Great questions that vary in difficulty.
I can't speak highly enough of this resource. It was a great way to practice close reading strategies with the anchor text that we were reading, and it was also great prep for benchmark testing.

Description

Whether you are reading the novella, only watching the movie, OR just want a seasonal check of reading comprehension, these quizzes for advanced middle school or high school help students step into reading Dickens!

Each quiz has a text excerpt from the stave that comes from a key thematic moment and follows with 10 questions – multiple choice and short answer – that challenge students to deal with vocabulary, theme, prediction, historical context, and literal comprehension. Quizzes are easy grading for you that provide student accountability and snapshots of both reading and test taking skills.

Although these quizzes are comparatively easier if students have read the entire text or watched the movie, they can still be used without reading the book. The questions are text-dependent on the provided sections. (The entire story is available online for free with an easy Google search if you want to read/teach it!)

This 21-page download includes:

• 5 chapter/stave quizzes with a rubric for CCSS RL.1

• Answer keys for each; correct answers AND the corresponding moments in the text are highlighted, and answers given for short answer questions.

• An overall page with more possible quiz questions and ideas

• A generic quiz that can be used for ANY stave with even more complex questions (best used if teaching the novella or movie).

NOTE: These quizzes are INCLUDED in my larger Unit for A Christmas Carol, which includes materials that are and are not sold separately, such as:
