Description
Ready to make your novel studies more inclusive? Add text pairings to your units! These curated lists for The Odyssey, Romeo & Juliet, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, The Outsiders, and The Giver will help add more voices to your core texts.
Each list includes text pairing ideas and activities:
- Songs
- Poems
- Documentaries
- Art
- Podcast episodes
- TED talks
- and more!
For each text, we share easy changes, like paired texts (videos, poems, articles, etc.) you could incorporate on a budget (or for free!). We also share more difficult changes, like substitutions you could request in the future. We are not saying that you need to replace every text -- we want to continue a dialogue on how to make our curricula more inclusive.
Each curated list represents 15+ hours of research. You can use any of these text suggestions as you plan your unit.
