    Detailed breakdown:

    Unit 1: Romeo and Juliet - Fast unit! Takes around 3 weeks. :)

    1. Introducing Shakespeare Escape Room - FUN way to get students engaged in Shakespeare and learning some background info.
    2. Romeo and Juliet Bookmarks - this has a character guide so students know which side of the feud each character is on and how they are related.
    3. Romeo and Juliet Film comparison - This is a packet with the top 5 scenes with the original language from the text. Each scene has a table after it where students compare the two film versions for acting/directing differences, symbols, setting, etc. Synopsis of what happens between the 5 major scenes is included in the packet. Be warned, students WILL argue over which version is better. :D Answer key and film time stamps included.
    4. A final CERER paragraph where students use the packet to find evidence for whether or not Romeo and Juliet are actually in love or not-could be adjust to a full essay if you have more time. Rubric included!
    5. Romeo and Juliet One Pager - student can visually show what they understand about this story. Rubric included!
    6. Multiple choice quizzes for the 5 major scenes from Romeo and Juliet. Answer keys included!
    7. Romeo and Juliet in 30 minutes! script. Great way if you want to read straight through in a short period of time. ALSO can be used as a script if you want students to put students into groups to act out the 5 major scenes plus prologue.

    House on Mango Street Unit

    1. Teacher Guide to the text! 4+ pages of background, characters, plot points, and full complex guides to important themes and symbols within the text. Be fully prepared to teach after reading this!
    2. Vignette Summaries for ALL 44 vignettes including important vocabulary words students may need to know and symbols present in each vignette
    3. ELEVEN(!) quizzes WITH answer keys for the text. Every 4 vignettes has an accompanying multiple choice quiz that will assess student comprehension of the text.
    4. Symbolism tracker: as you read notice and note which vignettes include different symbols (from the vignette summaries and teacher guide) and how those symbols are present. Look at: homes, trees, windows, writing, shoes, and more!
    5. Esperanza's timeline: throughout the novel, track the positives and negatives of Esperanza's year the novel covers, paying careful attention to how these events shape her as a character.
    6. Character chart: For all main characters (Esperanza, Nenny, Lucy and Rachel, Sally, and a space for others) track their personality traits and how Cisneros develops them into full characters with inspiration and motivations.
    7. Activity choices: a list of 11 activities (with standards noted!) that students can choose from throughout the reading of the novel to prove their understanding of the text!
    8. Personal Metaphor assignment: students create a personal metaphor mimicking the style of Cisneros in the vignette "Four Little Trees."
    9. Vignette Summary Student Fill In: not only helps students keep track of major events of the novel, but also includes noticings for thematic ideas that are present. Students will be well-prepared to write a literary analysis with this tool!
