Instructions & Notes: Prelutsky has at least 5 other poems on this holiday as well; I chose these nine. Each reader’s theater poem has 2-4 speaking parts numbered 1-4 and a chart to cast each poem. Consider casting 1-4 students per number. Each poem comes with a title poster they can hold up. Some poems come with additional poster visuals or stick puppets to hold up while performing. The poems can go in any order, or you can omit some. Consider printing the poem on the back of one of the posters that the students will hold up. If applicable, the script mentions which poster should be held up at what time. The person speaking that line doesn’t have to hold up the poster; someone else can if you like, or you can omit that part altogether. The posters & puppets just make the poems more entertaining for an audience, and for the students to perform.
