Description

Student and teacher data trackers for 8th grade Common Core math. This file includes a spreadsheet for the teacher to keep track of student performance, one for students to keep track of their individual performance, and a CCSS check sheet for you to keep track of what resources are aligned with each standard and check when you have covered them.

There are three versions of the student tracker and two versions of the teacher tracker included:

Student Version 1: Have students rate and date in their tracker using a 4 point scale when you begin a unit. You can do this by having them pretest or self assess. 4=no mistakes ever, 3=some mistakes but rare, 2=knows how to start but can't consistently get correct answers, 1=doesn't know where to start. Learning targets are numbered numerically only (ex: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3...2.1, 2.2, 2.3...3.1, 3.2, 3.3, etc.)

Student Version 2: Students rate and date in their tracker using a Master, Developing Mastery, or No Mastery scale. Mastery means they can successfully demonstrate the skill in most cases. Developing Mastery means they are still struggling and are not consistent. No Mastery would be if the student has no idea where to begin with this concept. I currently use this system and transfer it into my grade book as mastery with a 100, and DM or NM as a 0. When they retest, the 0 becomes a 100 if they demonstrate mastery.Learning targets are numbered numerically only (ex: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3...2.1, 2.2, 2.3...3.1, 3.2, 3.3, etc.)

Student Version 3: Same as version 2 except learning targets are named by unit. Ex: RN1, RN2, RN3...EX1, EX2, EX3...PT1, PT2, PT3

Teacher versions 1 and 2 can be used interchangeably with either grading method. The only difference is how the learning targets are numbered.

Have students update their trackers each time they quiz or test. Use the far right columns to create horizontal bar graphs to show growth. I have students rate, date, and graph in a new color each time.

In the teacher file, keep track of each student's performance for each standard. This will be beneficial for keeping individual student data and looking at individual strands to see where you need more work.

Each CCSS has been broken down into I Can statements including an intro unit covering rational numbers, integers, and PEMDASH. There are a total of 127 I Can statements for 8th grade.

Sequencing is as follows:
Unit 1: Rational numbers, PEMDASH, One Step Equations
Unit 2: Real number system
Unit 3: Exponents and Scientific Notation
Unit 4: Pythagorean Theorem
Unit 5: Equations in one and two variables
Unit 6: Systems of equations
Unit 7: Scatter Plots and Two-way Tables
Unit 8: Functions
Unit 9: Transformations, angles, triangles
Unit 10: Volume

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections, and translations:
Lines are taken to lines, and line segments to line segments of the same length.
Angles are taken to angles of the same measure.
Parallel lines are taken to parallel lines.
Understand that a two-dimensional figure is congruent to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, and translations; given two congruent figures, describe a sequence that exhibits the congruence between them.
