Description

This virtual escape challenge is intended for reviewing 8th grade math common core standards around the end of the year. This digital problem solving review lesson would be a great resource for test prep but will also provide challenge, enriched math conversation, and fun. This breakout game will allow students to practice 8th grade math common core standards. If you are concerned that your students will rush through the breakout without solving the problems thoroughly, print the scratch paper templates for students to show their work as they are solving problems.

Have a little fun at the end of the school year while still challenging your students academically. Test prep that won't have your students ready to fall asleep in class.

Digital breakouts are similar to physical lock box breakouts but without the hassle of all the necessary equipment. A digital breakout uses the same concept but without the physical locks and keys. All you need is the internet and collaborative, logical minds.

If you have used digital breakouts before, all you will have to do is assign the link provided. The link is to a Google Site that holds the Google Form with the โ€œlocksโ€ and the narrative for the breakout. Custom links are embedded within the Google Site to the clues.

Clues can be found by discovering 5 locks including:

โ˜… Clicking on hyperlinks found within underlined text and pictures

โ˜… Completing a maze while answering math questions

โ˜… Solving a logic puzzle while solving math problems

โ˜… Matching 8th grade math vocabulary words with their definitions

โ˜… Solving a physical puzzle while solving math problems

โ˜… Error analysis for math problems

------The crime being solved is a student-friendly, missing item mystery.-----

Verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections, and translations:
Use informal arguments to establish facts about the angle sum and exterior angle of triangles, about the angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the angle-angle criterion for similarity of triangles. For example, arrange three copies of the same triangle so that the sum of the three angles appears to form a line, and give an argument in terms of transversals why this is so.
Explain a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem and its converse.
Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to determine unknown side lengths in right triangles in real-world and mathematical problems in two and three dimensions.
Know the formulas for the volumes of cones, cylinders, and spheres and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
