What educators are saying

Students loved the zombie theme! I like the multiple pages of worksheets that help solve the puzzle.
I used this as an extension activity for my students that are performing above grade level in math. It's awesome for them to work ahead and on an activity that can be fairly self led and independent while I work with the students that are struggling. Love math mysteries!

Parts of the pages are editable so that your students can complete without having to print the pages. Please note, you will need to make a copy of the Google Slides to your drive before you can edit.

BONUS Video to use with this as well - CLICK HERE TO VIEW Case of The Zombie Elves VIDEO HOOK!

>>>Includes a Bonus ending video clip to wrap up the case after solving the mystery!

Editable Cures list added to the packet. This way you can change the cure names and alter the mystery outcome. There are also two alternative pre-made cure lists you can use instead. This is a great option if your students have already done this mystery story before and you need to change the mystery answer.

A great math detective is needed to quickly solve which cure will heal the zombie elves of the virus!

There are 5 clues to crack to solve the mystery:

Clue 1: Add & Subtract Mixed Numbers

Clue 2: Multiplying Integers

Clue 3: Convert Percents to Fractions

Clue 4: Dividing Decimals by Decimals

Clue 5: Solve One-Step Equations

Pack also includes a suspect declaration sheet, answer sheets, elimination guide and awards.

Great Christmas math activity.

Available in other grade levels:

Differentiation and Important Note about the other Grade Editions when the Mystery is the SAME Story Title:

The clues are the same in the other grades if the mystery story is the same. The math is what is different between the grade packs. I designed the mysteries this way to enable differentiating the task within your classroom (without your kids knowing that they might have an easier or harder version than their peers.) You can also 'clue swap' across grades (except for the Kindergarten & 1st grade version) as long as the clue number is the same if you find that you'd prefer the math skill for a particular clue from a different grade edition. For example, swap clue 3 from the 4th grade edition with clue 3 in the 5th grade edition and it will still work the same (just the math will be different). I've added an alternative suspect list to the pack to change the mystery outcome, including two pre-made lists for you to swap out if you want a different mystery solution.

There are many different mystery titles in my store available if you'd like more Math Mysteries with different clues and solutions.

Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract rational numbers.
Understand that integers can be divided, provided that the divisor is not zero, and every quotient of integers (with non-zero divisor) is a rational number. If 𝘱 and 𝘲 are integers, then –(𝘱/𝘲) = (–𝘱)/𝘲 = 𝘱/(–𝘲). Interpret quotients of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide rational numbers.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving the four operations with rational numbers.
Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies. For example: If a woman making $25 an hour gets a 10% raise, she will make an additional 1/10 of her salary an hour, or $2.50, for a new salary of $27.50. If you want to place a towel bar 9 3/4 inches long in the center of a door that is 27 1/2 inches wide, you will need to place the bar about 9 inches from each edge; this estimate can be used as a check on the exact computation.
