What educators are saying

I used this with my advanced math class and it was a lot of fun! It was enough of a challenge to keep the students thinking and problem solving, but not so challenging that they gave up. Prep is low, but engagement is high!

Description

This isn’t your typical escape room activity. Instead of being “locked” inside with the goal of escaping, a sweet treat is “locked away,” and the only way to get the sweet treat is to crack the four escape codes. Your students will be motivated by this fun and engaging Valentine’s Day math activity.

The best part is that you literally do not need to print a thing! Just have a sweet treat ready for those who are successful!

In order to be successful, teams will need to use good communication, logic, attention to detail, cooperation and their math skills.

This particular Escape Room focuses on standards that are taught in sixth grade.

The following skills are reviewed during the game:

❤️Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals

❤️Eliminating extra information when solving a story problem.

❤️Mathematical vocabulary practice

❤️Solving a logic puzzle with clues that allow practice with factors and multiples

If you work with a small group on math skills during intervention time, this game would be a fun game to play together. It allows you to review skills in a fun and motivating way.

The activity requires the use of technology because students will need to be able to access Google Forms and their Google Drives. The use of the Google Form reduces the amount of preparation and printing for the teacher. It also will only progress to the next task if the correct code is entered which means no grading for the teacher!

Students will be divided into teams where the object is for their team to successfully crack all four codes before time is up. If they are successful, they will have unlocked a sweet treat. The sweet treat that they receive for being successful can be whatever you want. I recommend 60-90 minutes, but you can vary the time based on the needs of your class.

If the concepts in this Escape Room are not the correct difficulty level, check out one of my other Valentine's Day Escape Rooms.
