Description

Sixth Grade Geometry 6 - Polygons in the Coordinate Plane Powerpoint Lesson is powerful when used as direct instruction in the classroom, on-line or individually. It teaches students how to draw polygons in the coordinate plane, find their coordinates and use those coordinates to find the measurement of the sides. With those measurements they solve real world problems such as perimeter and area. If students have not learned how to plot in the 4 quadrants of the coordinate plane I would recommend going through my lesson on the Coordinate Plane first. There are 22 effective teaching strategies based on research used in this lesson. For best results, students should have white boards and dry erase markers. Draw polygons in the coordinate plane given coordinates for the vertices; use coordinates to find the length of a side joining points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Solve real-world and mathematical problems by graphing points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Include use of coordinates and absolute value to find distances between points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate.
