60+ Science Fair Topics- UPDATED

Every year my students from grades 6-8 participate in science fair, and every year the same challenges occur. Students cannot pick a strong science fair topic and research question to study and their projects end up being a flop! Last year I began compiling all the best science fair topics and created this FABULOUS resource.

I have updated this resource on April 3rd, 2019. I fixed up some of the language and grammar and added a few more topics.

We just finished our science fair. The winning projects were:

Who is best at estimating size- men or women?

Which popcorn brand leaves the least unpopped kernels?

Includes:

-60+ science fair topic cards

-Divided by branch of science including- biology, chemistry, physics, maths, computer science, engineering, and psychology.

-Each card has the RQ and a brief explanation of what the experiment involves and includes.

-EAL friendly language

-Some "easy" topics for lower level students to choose from

-Some more extended topics

-MATH and COMPUTER SCIENCE topics for those math kids:)

What I did in my classroom:

-I laminated and cut out the cards and distributed them around the room by branch of science.

-I had my students walk around and read all the topics and select one that they were interested in.

-I had them fill out a google form selecting the topic and their group members.

Notes:

Some students wanted to pursue their own topics, and that is fine! My 6th graders all loved these topics and it made science fair 100x less stressful and AWESOME!

The high school Grade 11 and 12 teachers started using them this year as well. The kids really loved it!
