Description

5th grade math! INCLUDES DIGITAL VERSION compatible with Google Drive/Google Classroom! Decimal addition, subtraction, multiplication and division! Fifth grade math project based learning! Fifth Grade decimals!

This project is great for students to work on as an independent early finisher activity, during math centers, or during small group instruction. It is also an awesome option for distance learning applied math review! It provides practice with operations on decimals (decimal addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), as well as some measurement conversions and a few unit rate problems. It also focuses on single and multi-step story problem solving strategies!

Students choose the number of guests to invite to the party so they can do the same project again and again and the answers will be different depending on the number of guests they invite! Great for DISTANCE LEARNING! Now including a digital option that is compatible with Google Slides/Google Classroom!

It is perfect for on grade-level to advanced 5th grade students, or below grade-level sixth grade students. It is aligned to standards 5.MD.A.1, 5.NBT.B.5, 5.NBT.B.6, 5.NBT.B.7, 6.RP.A.3B

This is a fun and engaging project where students get to plan their own birthday party! There are 5 parts to the project including sending invitations, planning decorations, food and drink and games, as well as totaling up the cost at the end. Each part has between 6-12 questions that are realistic and make it seem like students are really planning a party! There are also fun pages included where students get to design invitations, create dance party playlists and more!

I recommend giving students guidance on the starting number to choose (number of guests to invite), which ranges from single-digit to double-digit. This number will be used to multiply decimals, so it is important that students choose a number that is at an appropriate level of challenge for them. Once students finish the project, they can always try it with a different number of invitations and see how the result changes!

I hope you enjoy this engaging decimal addition, subtraction, multiplication and division project!

The project opens as a ZIP file and includes a printable PDF version (with answer key) and a digital version in Power Point form which is compatible with Google Slides/Google Drive.

Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system (e.g., convert 5 cm to 0.05 m), and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real world problems.
Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
Find whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.
